Notes:

  1. In most cases you can also carry one carry-on (roller or not) and one handbag or briefcase.
  2. Small commuter links may put all carry-on (except your briefcase, purse or regulator bag?) in a luggage compartment.
  3. Most airlines can charge a surcharge for any piece of dive gear (technically, even a mask) if you admit to having it.
  4. Avoid carrying a tank. If you must, take out the valve or be prepared for paperwork and charges.
  5. Avoid using a bag that shouts DIVE!
  6. Generally, checked luggage is limited to 2 pieces of not more than 50lbs each. Check for international weight limits.
  7. Airline liability is normally around $9.00 per lb unless you have arranged for extra coverage.
